The Arrival of Sonlight Core 5!!!

This past Friday, we received our box – THE BOX – our Sonlight Core 5 box.  It was packed to the top and filled with an incredible amount of books and resources for Alexis’ upcoming school year.  I spent a good part of the weekend looking through this rich curriculum.

In Cores 3 & 4, Alexis "note-booked" many of the books we read – with me planning out how it would be done, and preparing note-booking pages ahead of time.  (Let’s just say that it was A LOT of work!)   For those of you who are familiar with Core 5, imagine my surprise when I opened up the Eastern Hemisphere Explorer packet!!!    I was absolutely THRILLED beyond belief!  It is way better than anything I would have put together.  The format alone will draw interest to a student.  It is colorful and includes places to add pertinent information about locations of study, as well as interesting trivia too.  Here is a Sample Page  that  Sonlight has available on their website.  i think Alexis will not only live it, but will end her 6th grade year with great confidence in her research skills.  I am looking forward to her getting started with it!  Between the research she does with World Book and Teaching Textbooks, Alexis will be using the computer quite a bit for school.  She will be very happy with this, as she LOVES working on the computer!

Finishing Out the School Year

Alexis before her recital
Awana ended too - this is a fuzzy photo of Alexis coming down offstage from the award ceremony.
Activities are winding down in our lives, as we look forward to the summer break.  Alexis’ extra curricular, as well as homeschool activities are finishing up one by one.

Her piano recital was 2 weeks ago.  She did an excellent job with her recital piece, Sonatina, playing every note just right.  We are so very proud of how hard Alexis has worked on piano this year.

In addition to these 2 activities, our homeschool group had it’s end-of-the-year party on Monday, and our Keepers Club finished with a "Turtle Race Party" on Wednesday.

I also ordered Alexis’  Sonlight Core 5 Curriculum and am expecting it to arrive soon!  The book list is absolutely incredible and both Alexis and I are truly looking forward to the study of the Eastern Hemisphere.  "Box day" should be fun!

In addition to Sonlight, and a few other miscellaneous items, I ordered Teaching Textbooks  for Alexis.  She asked to do a few of her subjects on the computer next year, including math.  I had heard good things about TT, and one of my friends sells it at our state homechool convention.  She brought a few sets to a curriculum fair that we held for our homeschool families, so I had a chance to see the set I ordered up close and personal.  I hope she will like it.  Alexis looked through their website and seemed pleased with what she saw.  The graphis are colorful and quite engaging.

In the middle of all the homeschool busyness with Alexis, our 2 oldest children finished up their 1st and 2nd years of college.  We happily picked Amanda up a week ago, and David came home a few days later.  It is so good to be able to see their sweet faces and give them hugs.  They are both looking for jobs right now, and Amanda is taking a couple of summer courses at a local college.  It is a pleasure to have them home.    David is trying to catch up on his eating, and Amanda is trying to re-do her bedroom.  Did I mention that it is good to have them home???
